Keep Hebrew Skills Strong All Summer Long
Summer can be a great time to keep Hebrew skills sharp, and prevent the summer slide. Share these resources with families and students and remind them that just 10 minutes of practice on any of these resources a few times a week tucked into a car ride or long afternoon will go a long way to retaining their hard-earned language competence.

Shalom Hebrew
For decoding learning and fun reinforcement, Shalom Hebrew is an app that takes language practice on the go - anywhere, anytime. Each of the 24 lessons in this app builds on a foundation of key cultural words, such as mitzvah and shamash, and introduces related letters, vowels, syllables and words, with plenty of practice opportunities. Students learn Hebrew aurally and visually at the same time, hearing the sounds of letters, vowels and syllables. They can also record themselves reading and play back the recording, and compare their pronounciation to both Israeli and American voices.
Created as a universal app, it can be used on any PC or Mac desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone. (For students in the Online Learning Center, the app links to student accounts and allows their progress and recordings to be saved centrally, no matter where they practice—at home, at school, or even in the car.)
Sample the first five lessons FREE by visiting the app store or Google play and downloading Shalom Hebrew directly to any iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Hebrew in Harmony
Students who used Hebrew in Harmony during the school year still have access to the digital companion over the summer. Usable on all devices: tablets, smartphones, or laptops. Try it out here!
The app includes 22 prayers, and each prayer comes with:
-
Music and Videos - Musical hosts Eliana Light and Noah Aronson help students dive into the prayer words, melodies and meaning. Music for each prayer includes a traditional melody plus 3-4 musical interpretations of the prayer. Videos explain the meaning of the prayer. Option to add custom audio or video recordings into the app.
-
Games - 2-3 games for each prayer that reinforce key concepts in game-style play.
-
Hebrew Reading Practice - Hear the prayer in Israeli and American voices. Three levels of listening and recording options.
